Rich has been actively engaged in rowing for over 20 years and began his first season at Capital in 2023. Rich was a distinguished collegiate athlete, has been a collegiate head coach, and dedicated advocate for young rowers in middle school and high school club programs. Rich has been involved with Row Abroad and most recently comes to Capital from Norcal Crew and Pacific Rowing Club. Before that, he coached two seasons of Novice Men at Oakland Strokes, coordinated their Middle School rowing program and coached the Varsity for two years.

Coach Rich graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 1989 with degrees in Economics and Business. He was a member of their lightweight rowing team for three years and then went on to serve as head coach of their women’s team and first founder of their middle school and High School Summer camps. He later was the Head Coach for the UC Berkeley Women’s Lightweight rowing team with much success, winning WIRA’s, the Dad Vail Regatta and consistently one of the top ten lightweight teams in the country during his tenure.
