Water Front Supervisor
Matt grew up around the aquatic environment, swimming competitively and playing water polo from an early age. He became a California State Parks Lifeguard at the age of 16, where he worked at Folsom Lake, Lake Natoma, and Southern California beaches. Responding to aquatic emergencies, major medical incidents, as well as proactively educating beach goers on aquatic safety for 12 years.
Matt attended California State University of Sacramento to earn a degree in Criminal Justice while continuing his career at California State Parks. In addition to his role as a first responder, he was the program coordinator of the Folsom Lake Junior Lifeguard Program located at Lake Natoma for 8 years. After years of working across the lake, Matt made the career transition to the Sac State Aquatic Center as the Waterfront Supervisor. Matt hopes to build new relationships and help develop and improve the aquatic safety of the Sac State Aquatic Center and in turn help keep the general public safe as well. Matt is married to his loving wife, Sam, who shares his passions for aquatics. They enjoy recreating outdoors all around Folsom and Lake Natoma.
What is the best part about working at the Aquatic Center?
“ My favorite thing about working at the Sac State Aquatic Center is that everyone takes real pride in what we do here. It’s not just a job; everyone genuinely cares about their work, and it makes the team atmosphere something that I am so proud to be a part of.”
